This is amazing…. but why??….Black women in positions of power within law bring invaluable perspectives, challenging systemic biases and enriching legal discourse. Their presence amplifies diverse voices, ensuring equitable representation and justice for marginalised communities. As trailblazers, they inspire future generations, breaking barriers and reshaping the legal landscape towards inclusivity and fairness. Their leadership fosters empathy, understanding, and intersectional approaches to law, addressing issues often overlooked or misunderstood. By championing equality and advocating for change, black women in law propel society towards greater social justice, embodying resilience, intellect, and the transformative power of representation in the pursuit of a more equitable world.🤍#blackwomeninlaw #lawyer #supremecourt #lawyerlife

The National Association for the Advancement of White People (NAAWP) has had two separate iterations. The first existed from 1954 to 1955, while the second was established in 1979 and continues to the present day. Let’s delve into all three versions:First Iteration (1954–1955):Founder and President: Bryant Bowles, a former Marine and veteran of WWII and the Korean War.Purpose: Formed in response to the Brown v. Board of Education decision, which mandated school desegregation.Activities: Organized rallies in several states to oppose school integration. Bowles was charged with assaulting a Black postal worker during this time. Members and participants in NAAWP protests and rallies included Senator Robert Byrd out of West Virginia and Senator Joe Biden out of Delaware.Outcome: The Delaware Attorney General revoked the NAAWP charter, effectively shutting down the organization.Second Iteration (1979–2012) David Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard. Origins: Duke left the Klan due to concerns about their violent reputation after the Greensboro Massacre.Current leader, Mark Anthony Traina who maintains close ties with Duke, based in Louisiana and a long-term member of the NAAWP took reins of the organization back in 2012 and he is now the President of the NAAWP. Traina a conservative is proactive Trump Supporter, an economist, a school psychologist and an extremely outspoken civil rights activist who publishes blogs about violent crime, failing school districts, inflation, political corruption and the impact of illegal immigration on the American Society. The NAAWP can be reached at (504) 231-3056.

“Black students I’ve talked to are (now) experiencing more anti-Black hate speech than in my 33 years of teaching in schools…We are backwards from where we were.” (Erin Jones). As the parent of a young, Black, male student, I fear the course we are on. It can - and needs to - be better. Now more than ever, organizations such as the A4LE-Association for Learning Environments can be invaluable if they have strong initiatives in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging at all levels (as they once did). These inform us about the broad spectrum of issues so vital to the clients, communities, and students we serve and how we as school design professionals can help provide design and planning-based solutions. In recent months the association, along with many US States and countless organizations, have moved backwards. #SchoolDesign #K12 #A4LE #DEI #JEDI #BelongingAndInclusion #SocialJustice

#BlackHistoryMonth begins today! February provides us an opportunity to honor the movement, to celebrate Black achievement, and to remember and educate others of the systematic racism and racial injustices that still persists within the country and criminal justice system. To do that, #OCVJC has committed to educating ourselves and others on how race still shapes and affects our policies, media, law, politics, and even the treatment of crime victims. Make sure to follow us on social media to learn more highlights this #BHM and OCVJC’s upcoming #FREE webinar series on Equity in Victim Services. I talked to a number of people after the events last week that we saw in the UK, around racist and violent comments regarding Diane Abbott. The attack, and for many the inadequacy of the reaction around the racist comments, have a real impact on people. We set ourselves up at C4 to stand against racism, to be anti-racist. That means we need to think about how we show up as an organisation. For a lot of my colleagues last week was very tough. Particularly for Black women who encounter this type of “misogynoir” in their daily personal and professional lives. It has made me think about what I need to do to be an ally. What are the ways that allies let our Black colleagues feel seen and safe in these moments; how do we educate ourselves to better recognise racist behaviour and what we can do to counter it; how do we ensure that our own behaviours are sensitive to the ways in which Black women can be dehumanised or their contributions devalued. It is always worth exploring how one can improve even if we might not always get it right. I had emailed Channel 4 at the start of the week talking about faith and the complexity of being comfortable with views about Israel-Gaza and it being so hard to manage our identities and opinions whilst the conflict goes on. For me it’s worth just thinking about how we can help each other as colleagues and I hope all feel safe and respected in our buildings. https://lnkd.in/e4SizQ9x
