According to Ramamoorti (2009), there were three types of fraud described as: a bad Apple, a bad Bushel, a bad crop. A bad Apple refers to individual fraud, the fraud committed by individual. A bad Bushel refers to collusive fraud, the fraud committed in collusion.

The Fraud Triangle hypothesizes that if all three components are present — unshareable financial need, perceived opportunity and rationalization — a person is highly likely to pursue fraudulent activities.
